The best camera is the one you have with you, and last Thursday, the iPhone was it. It was a remarkable storm with a lot of lightning and thunder, but little rain. Once it passed overhead, the sunset caught the rain to create a stunning double rainbow. But, to my surprise, the camera caught a flash of lightning, something I’d never managed to capture before. Sharing the moment with Odin made it all that much more joyful.
This is my favorite time of day when the world is painted in warm, optimistic, creative tones that fade away all too quickly. If I can capture an iota of that warmth, optimism and creativity, then I figure I’ve done good. Because, just like I never thought of myself as a singer while I was singing, I don’t think of myself as a photographer while I’ve got my camera in hand. The warmth, optimism and creativity are there already, and the only claim to fame that I have is that I manage to tap into it every now and then.
Pink sky at night, sailor’s delight; pink sky in the morning, sailor’s warning. Good thing I’m not a sailor, because when I looked out my kitchen window Monday morning and saw this spectacular sight, I was delighted. I’m even more delighted that the camera captured exactly what my eyes saw.
It was an amazing, frozen sunrise this morning here in winter-bound Arkansas. The pink sky lit the windows of the house and I couldn’t resist getting the camera out. But, not for long. I took seven shots before retreating quickly back into the warmth of inside.
I took this photo before sunrise today. Supposedly, this a "blue moon," meaning the first of two full moons in one month.

Where I live, it is huge. That’s the best way to describe it. Standing in the middle of the pasture, all I have to do is stand in one place and slowly turn 360 degrees to capture an endless expanse of nature.
This evening, the sky was filled with the sunset in almost every direction. The top photo is the sunset itself, in the west. Turning directly south, the sunset was even more vivid, and what I saw is the second photo. To top it all off is what I found in the east, the last photo. Everything in the east was lit with that subtle purple hue, and it was breathtaking.
All these were taken with my iPhone.
Taken with the camera in my iPhone, I was able to capture the feel of last night’s fast-moving clouds. Moving from the north and the east, the clouds came together at a point in the west as though following the sun as it set.
